Socio-economic utility value and contribution to sustainable societal development

MudSim has developed algorithms for the customer and the industry making is possible to utilize
available technology and historical data to select environmental-friendly drilling fluid. MudSim is a
planning tool that enables well engineers to detect and plan importance and performance for a drilling
fluid with respective emissions to sea, air and land. This includes drilling of production- and development
wells, bigger geothermal wells and Plug and Abandonment. Authorities as the Norwegian Environment
Agency and the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway can use the planning tool as a reference to find out
how evaluation and a selection of a drilling fluid has been done.

An additional feature in MudSim is to handle real time data when the drilling operator have started to
drill the well. Simulations used to suggest optimal fluid when planning drilling operations can now be
utilized also to perform improved simulations based on updated drilling fluid parameters or drilling fluid
process parameters. New input from operation makes this possible.

MudSim is user friendly, easy to understand, and improves communication before and during drilling. It
is adapted for use internationally. Further, MudSim can be used within instruction, teaching, training,
and as refreshment of own knowledge.

MudSim AS has selected the following sustainable goals as the most relevant with belonging strategies:

  • Promote HSE and reduced use of chemicalskalier in the workplace.
  • Prevent health injury / damage by using less dangerous chemicals in the drilling fluid.
  • Planning wells in a smarter way
  • Reduce power consumption; smarter and optimal choice
  • Utilize natural resources with less power consumption
  • Planning reduced emission of CO2
  • Planning to reduce production and emission of chemicals
  • MudSim is a driver for a inclusive and diverse workplace
with focus on co-creation of values for our local
community and local authorities. MudSim is a driving
force for sustainable solutions and growth where
digitization, enabling technology and social sustainability
    create environmental improvement
  • Reduce emission to Sea
  • Reduce use of hazardous chemicals with risk for emission to sea
  • MudSim consider use of drilling fluid in areas with vulnerable fauna
  • Utilize technology to improve drilling efficiency within planning and operation
  • Innovate and smarter solutions and get to more with less
  • Digitalization when selecting optimal drilling fluid.
  • Improve communication with mud control system and other
software system and sensor data to ensure corrective actions
    in the operation phase.
  • Enables more co-operations with authorities and
    professional environments to develop more
    environmentally friendly solutions.
  • Easier co-operation with operators, vendors, drilling fluid
suppliers and authorities when sharing knowledge and data
to ensure common efforts to improve drilling operations.

The 17 Sustainable development goals are a framework for international businesses to demonstrate and
report according to ESG to view own participation and results. This figure show how MudSim will
contribute within the framework. MudSim find it especially important to take improvement initiatives in
the oil and gas business – a business that need technological improvements and initiatives to reduce own
emissions. MudSim will have a small, but important part of improvements as part of a total reduction for
the industry. One major motivation to participate in emission reduction is the authorities’ new strategy
where polluters have to pay for emissions.Today this is payment for own CO2 emissions with increasing
payment towards year 2030. MudSim will accordingly give the industry lower cost.

Sustainability goals and improvements for the company with products sant services

Area with improvementTargetStatus
Chemical emissions from drilling operations.Reduce emissions by 20% when using MudSlim for three years.According to professionals within the industry it is absolutely possible to reduce emissions. Drilling make up as much as 65% of the total emission within the industry and with Drilling Fluid selection to be important with room for improvements.
Possible to select less dangerous chemicals within Drilling Fluid Composition.Reduce alle use of chemicals with «code red» within 2 years.Total effect for all characteristics for the drilling fluid, makes it possible to simulate impacts and consequences when using less dangerous chemicals.
Use of historical data and compare simulations with fluid and process parameters within planning and operation, will cause more predictable drilling operations.Improved efficiency with 5%, for the same well within 5 years with use of MudSim.Reported situations with «non productive time» (NPT) that can be improved indicate clearly a potential for less situations with «loss of time».
HSE caused by handling various drilling fluids.Reduce absence with 5% less human injuries like allergic reactions when using more enviromental friendly drilling fluids.Oil Based Mud (OBM) might give human injuries on skin and breath, compared with Water Based Mud (WBM) with less reactions.
Diversity and inclusion. MudSim to drive this within own but also other organizations for stakholders. Avoid exclusion for poeple within the societyEmphasize value creation within the work environment that work with diversity and inclusion. Employ 20-30% with main focus on inclusion and reduce exclusion within 3 years.Tranparency within todays organisation to include strong demands within social sustainabability.
Co-operate within Oil/Gass to utilize available data and computer science technology will give synergies across within the industry.Awareness and common agreement with operator to take the lead might impact 30-40% reduction in CO2 emissions.Today there is a high focus on enviromental impact with electrification on the continental shelf, and treatment of dangerous goods from drilling. Use
of MudSim can reduce dangerous goods and belonging CO2 emissions.
